Negombo is a city located on the west coast of Sri Lanka, north of the capital, Colombo, near the waterfront. It includes the remains of a Dutch fort dating back to the seventeenth century, which is now a prison. Negombo features fishermen's huts lined up along the Hamilton Canal, which extends south into Colombo. The city contains the neoclassical St. Mary's Church, completed in 1920, which features a ceiling decorated with religious paintings that seem alive. The Sri Lankan city of Negombo is a wonderful center for enjoying many recreational and water activities, as it is a distinguished home to many architectural and natural attractions such as lakes, markets, temples and museums. You can also take many of the city's cruises via sailing boats, and eat dinner during the trip.
