Information about Doge's Palace - Genoa
The Doge's Palace is a historical building in the city of Genoa in northern Italy. The place was formerly the residence of the Genoese magistrate and is now a museum and center for cultural events and art exhibitions. The museum is located in the heart of the city, with two different entrances and facades. The first parts of the palace were built between 1251 and 1275, during the prosperous period of Genoese republican history, while the Torre Grimaldina (People's Tower) was completed in 1539. In 1777, the place was exposed to fire and then rebuilt in neoclassical style by Simone Cantone. Many public events are held here and the palace hosted the G8 summit, which was attended by the leaders of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States.
