The underground city of Derinkuyu, Cappadocia's deepest refuge, was used, as with Kaymakli, by early Christians to hide from attack. The tunnels here are absolutely stunning, there is a chapel and many living and storage areas to explore in this underground labyrinth. The innovative shaft system used by the ancient inhabitants can also be seen.
