Information about Clock Tower
The clock tower was built in 1602, in the center of Kotor, and is the focal point of the city. Standing on three floors with two faces of a clock, it is one of the first things people see as they enter the city through the main sea gate. The tower combines elements of Baroque and Gothic architecture, is made of gray stone, and features a cover of arms in the front part of the building that belonged to the family of a prince from Montenegro, from the era in which it was built. On the ground floor, there is a watchmaking shop that is said to have existed since the 17th century. In front of the tower was a small pyramid-shaped stone that served as a pillar, to which local criminals were tied as punishment. There is also a beautiful courtyard for rest, and it is preferable to visit it at night, where the tower and the square are illuminated, so the view is stunning.
