The city of Marsa Matruh has many interesting archaeological sites, the most famous of which is Cleopatra’s Rock, which is a natural sculpture that bears witness to a tragic love story. Local stories tell that this rock, also known as Cleopatra’s Bath, was the resting place of Queen Cleopatra and her lover, the Roman commander Anthony before to break up. The site consists of a huge rock in which sea water passes through tunnels carved from north to south, and then pours into the sea again.
