The City of the Dead or Cairo Cemetery, also referred to as Al-Qarafa is a series of vast tombs dating back to the Islamic era in Cairo, extending to the north and south of the Cairo Citadel, below the Mokattam Hills and outside the historic city walls, and covering an area of about 4 miles . It has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site titled "Historic Cairo".
