The Church of the Nativity is the oldest and most affluent church in Veliko Tarnovo. It was built in stages. The oldest layer of frescoes in it dates back to the end of the sixteenth century. It consists of a temple, an entrance, a gallery and a chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist. One of the most interesting scenes is the family tree of Jesus Christ with the twelve ancient philosophers, and the Wheel of Life is the most impressive fresco in the church gallery.
