On the western slopes of the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem is the unique Church of Mary Magdalene. This Orthodox church was designed in the Russian style with the seven prominent golden domes that can be seen from afar and each surmounted by a long Russian Orthodox cross. This church was built in the nineteenth century AD. The reason for its naming and construction goes back to Mary Magdalene, a student of Jesus, peace be upon him, who went after him on his way to be crucified. The church is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from ten in the morning until twelve in the afternoon.
