The Chiang Mai Arts and Culture Center is located in the center of the old city, just behind the Three Kings Monument. The center is located inside the old regional government hall. And it opened in 1999. The cultural and art center is filled with information and history about Chiang Mai's past. There are many different exhibits in the center including photographs, antiques, maps, and an impressive audiovisual display depicting the history of Chiang Mai from the early settlers to the present day city. There is even a miniature version of a traditional wooden village. The Cultural and Art Center was established as part of the City Hall initiative to create a source of learning about the heritage and culture of Chiang Mai, and the organizers wanted the past to be easy to understand, perceive and interact with for both visitors and residents of Chiang Mai.
