The Old Center is a complex of more than 20 of the oldest buildings in Baia Mare, built between the 15th and 19th centuries, and has become a prominent historical monument in the city. It is one of the few remaining complexes in Romania. Also known as Baia Mare Historic Centre, this is where the weekly fair was held, and today is by far the most beautiful part of the city, with the oldest building being the Elizabeth House, built in 1446 by Iancu of Hunedoara for his wife Elizabeth.
