Information about Basilica Menor Santa Capilla
The Minor Basilica of Santa Capilla, a Roman Catholic church located in the central part of the city in the cathedral parish of the Libertador municipality of Caracas, was built by order of President Antonio Guzmán Blanco in 1883, and designed by the engineer Juan Hurtado Manrique. In its name, a reference to Sainte-Chapelle in Paris, it was built on the ruins of a church that was destroyed by an earthquake in 1812, and in 1921 it was expanded, and on February 16, 1979 it was declared a National Historic Monument. It is a tourist archaeological landmark frequented by tourists and local residents.
