Osterstrette Street is located in the center of Reykjavik and extends from Viltosund in the east to Logargata. A fire broke out on April 18, 2007 in the Osterstreet area and destroyed two historic homes, causing no casualties. The street was initially called Langafortov or Langstet (which means Long Pavement) because its southern side was cobblestoned so that people could walk over it despite the heavy rain.
