In fact, this palace was built in the late 19th century for a Greek family. After the War of Independence all Greek minorities were deported to Greece and the palace was left unused for some time, and later in the early 1930's, it was bought by the local municipality and presented as a gift to Turkey's founder Kemal Ataturk as a place to stay during his visits to Trabzon. The mansion is located on a hill overlooking the Black Sea and is maintained and handled by the local municipality.
