The idea of creating an Art Pavilion Gallery in Zagreb was first proposed by the Croatian painter Vlaho Bokovac in the spring of 1895, and in 1896 artists from what was then the Kingdom of Croatia-Slavonia were invited to the celebration of the 1,000th anniversary of the Hungarian state.
