The Arrabida Bridge is a symbol of Porto. It was designed by Edgar Cardoso with the intent of "meeting the need to connect the roads from Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia", and the uniqueness of its construction and remarkable architecture has led it to be considered a "masterpiece" and an outstanding attraction of the city. It was also designated a National Monument in 2013 on its fiftieth anniversary, which led to its recognition at the international level, and until 1963, the Arrabida Bridge was the largest concrete arch in the world.
