Established in Mykonos in 1902, this Archaeological Museum was established primarily to preserve the relics recovered from the 426-425 BC purification pit, which was discovered in 1898. The museum building has distinctive neoclassical features. Countless intricately designed vases are displayed in the museum, some of which date back to prehistoric times, and there is a collection of vases belonging to the Hellenistic period. One of the most important exhibits in the museum are the skilfully depicted paintings of Bythos, which were discovered in 1961 while diggers were digging a well in Mykonos.
