In honor of the great Lady of Mykonos, Manto Mavrogenous, a statue has been erected in the central square that bears her name, reminding locals and visitors of her invaluable contribution to her country's history. Her fortune was to liberate the Greeks from Ottoman rule, and under her encouragement, her European friends contributed money and guns to the revolution.
