The modern museum was opened on Halil Rifat Street in Konak District in 1984. The museum includes exhibition halls, laboratories, warehouses, photo rooms, libraries and conference rooms, with a combined area of about 5,000 square meters, with more than 1,500 artifacts on display. The exhibition is organized into different floors and halls containing artifacts from the ancient city of Smyrna as well as from the surrounding archaeological sites.
