Information about Aqaba Castle
Aqaba Castle or the Mamluk Castle is one of the most important archaeological sites in Aqaba, as it offers its visitors a glimpse into the history of Jordan. This castle was originally built by the Crusaders in the 12th century, and after it was destroyed, it was rebuilt again in the early 16th century under the Mamluks. The castle was used and renovated repeatedly during many historical dynasties, from the Mamluks to the Ottomans, whose empires were overthrown by this castle. This castle is located on the coast next to the flagpole that carries the flag of the Arab revolution against the Ottomans, and near it there is the Aqaba Archaeological Museum, which was formerly the residence of Sharif Hussein.
