This medieval castle was formerly the residence of the county legate as it was erected by the early nobles who ruled the state. Today, the 13th-century castle contains a museum and several interactive exhibits, including one dedicated to the Princes of the Roman Empire (Counts of Mark), the powerful lords of the Holy Roman Empire. The site also hosts cultural events, such as medieval festivals and puppets. The castle is characterized by its attractive location, where it mediates the top of a small hill overlooking the middle village and surrounded by trees from all directions.
