The Alisher Navoi Opera Theater was established in the twenties of the last century, specifically in 1929, and was founded by a group of amateurs who wanted to reach professionalism. The first opera concert was held in the theater in 1939, and in 1966 it became the most important theater building in Uzbekistan. The theater was designed by Soviet engineer Alexey Shchusev who also designed Lenin's Mausoleum on Red Square in Moscow, and the architect decorated the entire building with works by Uzbek artists.
