Archaeological excavations were carried out in the municipality of Fürstetten (Emmenden/Baden-Württemberg) which opened a window in time to the transitional period between Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages. Evaluation of the results of the excavations led to the idea of reconstructing the Early Age in the period before the Roman Imperial frontier with a museum and an open-air area and making it alive and tangible according to the principles of living history. The idea consists of the first reconstruction of an early German settlement and the development of the concept of an educational museum.
