Information about Al Masjid an Nabawi
Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, the Prophet’s Mosque, or the Prophet’s Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world and the second holiest site in Islam (after the Grand Mosque in Makkah Al-Mukarramah). It is the mosque built by the Prophet Muhammad in Medina after his migration in the year 1 AH next to his house after the construction of the Quba Mosque. The mosque underwent several expansions throughout history, passing through the era of the Rightly-Guided Caliphs, the Umayyad state, the Abbasid and the Ottoman Empire, and finally during the era of the Saudi state, where the largest expansion took place in 1994, and the Prophet’s Mosque is the first place in the Arabian Peninsula where lighting is done by using electric lamps in 1327 AH. The mosque is located in the center of Medina, surrounded by many hotels and old markets nearby, and many people who perform Hajj or Umrah visit it, and visit the tomb of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
