Covering an area of 10 percent of Dubai's total area, Al Marmoom Reserve is the largest unfenced nature reserve in the United Arab Emirates and is also home to the largest renewable energy project in the region; Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Energy Complex. Known for its impressive sustainability initiatives, Al Marmoom Desert Reserve is rich in local wildlife, and hosts one of the largest concentrations of Arabian Oryx in Dubai and the highest concentration of large flamingos in the UAE. The reserve has more than 40 hectares of shrubland and fertile areas, home to more than 204 species of native birds, 158 species of migratory birds and many other endangered species and more than 10 square meters of lakes that include Al Qudra Lakes.
