The museum is located at the Hejaz Railway Station in Al Anbariya. It includes halls containing many artifacts, visual galleries and old photos, in addition to the Hejaz Railway Museum, which contains artifacts belonging to the Ottoman train, including wagons and engines.​ The project of the Ottoman Sultan Abdul Hamid II to link Istanbul, the capital of the Ottoman Caliphate, to Madinah at the time, with a railway passing through the Levant. The first train arrived in Madinah in 1326 AH / 1908 AD, and a special celebration was held on this occasion. The museum consists of 14 halls that display the history and heritage of Medina from the prehistoric period to the modern era, as follows: the museum lobby, the environment of Medina and its natural history, Medina before Islam, Medina in the Prophet’s era, the wives of the Prophet, peace be upon him and his sons Al-Muhajiroun, Al-Ansar, Al-Masjid an-Nabawi, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah during the era of the Rightly-guided Caliphs, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah during the Islamic ages, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah during the era of the first Saudi state, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah during the era of the second Saudi State, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah during the reign of King Abdulaziz, urban heritage.
