Information about Al-Hakim Mosque
The Al-Hakim Mosque is famous for its unusually shaped minarets, which are the oldest minarets in Cairo, and it is also the second largest Fatimid mosque in the city. The mosque has an interesting story about the eccentric Caliph named Al-Hakim Bi-Amr Allah, who ordered the building of the mosque in 990 AD. Then, at the age of thirty-six, he went out one day and disappeared without leaving a trace; The mosque has been in poor condition over the years. At one point it was used as a prison to hold the Crusaders and then a warehouse for Napoleon and was used as stables for Saladin and during Nasser's rule it was a school; Only in the late twentieth century was it restored and converted into a mosque.
