Al Fahal Island is located about 4 kilometers from the Omani mainland, and its area is only 2.24 square kilometers. It is composed mostly of clay and limestone that dates back to the Eocene era, that is, to about 55 million years ago. This limestone was originally part of the The sea floor, which is made up of crusts of marine organisms, coral reefs and algae that are deposited in a shallow marine environment, and then rose to the surface due to the rise and change in sea levels. This island is considered a haven for fish and coral species in Oman, as well as a marine nature reserve that requires permits to access or snorkel.
