Tourism in Yakushima
Yakushima is an island located in Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan. It is famous for its diverse wildlife and rice cultivation. It is covered with vast cedar forests that contain some of the oldest trees in Japan. These trees that are more than 1,000 years old are called "Yakusugi", and the oldest may be more than From 7000 years. The island's cedar forests were registered as a Natural World Heritage Site in 1993, and most tourists come to the island to walk and see the ancient cedar trees. As a subtropical island about 2,000 meters high, Yakushima attracts a lot of rain throughout the year, and there is a local aphorism that states that it rains “35 days a month.” Although this may be an exaggeration, it does rain almost daily. On a daily basis, especially in mountainous areas, this rain is mostly light and limited to short periods of time, in a way that does not affect the tourist tours there.
