Umm Salal is an ancient city and municipality in the State of Qatar that contains many historical places such as Barzan Tower and Umm Salal Fort, which were built in the late nineteenth century. Umm Salal Municipality is located in Umm Salal Ali, about 10 km from the coast and 15 km north of Doha, the Qatari capital. The name of the area literally translates to "Umm al-Sakhr" as it was named after the numerous rock formations in the area.
