The municipality of Umm Salal was established in 1972. It means “Mother of Rocks” because the word “Salal” means rocks or stones, and this name was given to it due to the various rock formations that can be observed throughout the area. Umm Salal is considered one of the smallest municipalities in Qatar in terms of area, but despite its small size, it has a lot to explore, as the municipality includes many historical monuments, parks, and play areas that are popular among hikers and locals.
