Riffa, formerly known in English as Rufin, is the second largest city in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The city is divided into two parts: East Riffa and West Riffa. Riffa was once the main settlement on the island of Bahrain, before it was replaced by the port of Manama over the course of the nineteenth century. East Riffa has many tourist attractions, one of these landmarks is Riffa Castle, which is also known as Sheikh Salman bin Ahmed Al-Fateh Castle. The city has many shopping centers and two main shopping streets; Riffa Bazaar (Riffa Market) and Bokwara Street Market. Playing golf at the Royal Golf Club is one of the most important activities in the area. The famous clock tower is located in the center of West Riffa. East Riffa is home to the Bahrain National Stadium, where most of Bahrain's football matches and important sporting events are held.
