The capital of Colombia, Bogota, is located on a high plateau in the Andes Mountains and extends over an area of 1,857 square kilometers. With a population density of about 8.5 million people, in 2007 Bogota was chosen as the capital of the book. Today, it is one of the most important economic and political centers on which Colombia depends. Bogota is called the city of the emerald green and is home to famous museums including the Botero Museum, which displays the art of Fernando Botero, and the Gold Museum, which houses more than 55,000 pieces of gold. Among its most important tourist attractions; Monserrate Mountain, which offers a wonderful view of the city and can reach the summit by cable car or on foot, the Plaza de Bolivar, which is the lively heart of Bogota, and La Cadelaria, which is the historical and colonial heart of the city where there are fertile and green lands.
