Bandar Seri Begawan is the capital and largest city of Brunei. It was originally known as the city of Brunei, and was later named after the father of the late Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddin in 1970. It is located on the northern bank of the Brunei River, and is characterized by two types of different terrain, as water villages form Some of its historic aquatic neighborhoods, and its beaches provide a vibrant marine life, while the dry lands in its other parts provide a group of museums, mosques and historical sites that best reflect its rich local culture.
