Al Khor is a coastal city in the north of Qatar located 50 km north of the capital, Doha. It is considered one of the largest cities in Qatar, and is the capital of Al Khor Municipality. The city's name means creek in Arabic and was given this name because the original settlement was built on a creek. The city is home to many people working in the oil industry due to its proximity to the oil and natural gas fields of northern Qatar and the Ras Laffan Industrial City. It is one of the proposed venues for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
