The Governorate of South Al Batinah is located west of Muscat, and extends between the Sea of Oman in the east and the hills of the Western Hajar Mountains in the west. Because of its location, economic resources and population density, it has played an influential role throughout Omani history. This region, full of historical sites and stunning views, is considered the green belt of the Sultanate of Oman, where harvesting takes place. Most of the country's fresh produce is in its farms. The coastal province also includes stunning fishing villages, charming beaches, medieval castles and limitless palm plantations, and is home to many beautiful valleys, villages and interesting tourist attractions.
