The first zoo in Romania was founded in 1929, on the site of the old Sibiu electricity plant, thanks to the initiative of a local who had the idea when he encountered some foxes while working on the Sado Dam. After its foundation, many species of animals and birds were donated to the park such as: Carbastian deer from poachers, etc. In 1930 the first bear was donated.
