Wat Rong Khun or White Temple is an exotic-looking white temple located about five kilometers south of Chiang Rai city. It is the brainchild of Chiang Rai-born plastic artist and painter Chalermchai Kositpipat. Incorporating white as a pure color to embody the sanctity of temples with orthodox Buddhist teachings about heaven, hell, karma and earthly sins, the temple is also filled with Buddhist symbols reflected in its layout, architecture, reliefs, and mirror decorations.
