The Vorarlberg Museum is located on the north side of the Kornmarktplatz in the lower town of Bregenz. The museum was established in 1857 to preserve the region's rich cultural heritage. Highlights of the many displays include collections of historical, cultural and artistic significance from prehistoric times to the present day, including ancient stone memorials and archaeological finds from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages. Other displays are devoted to local culture from the Gothic and Renaissance periods, including Including musical instruments, costumes, handicrafts and weapons. The museum is home to a rich collection of goldsmiths' works, coins and textiles.
