The origin of the Veronicas Wall dates back to the nineteenth century when the first wall to defend the city was built in 825 at the initiative of Abd al-Rahman II. The wall was also designed to protect the city from the periodic floods of the Segura River as well as repel invasions. Originally it contains bulges in the areas where there are towers, but over the years it has been modified and reconstructed with stronger and stronger materials and method.
