The Van Abbe Museum is located in the center of Eindhoven. It is a museum of modern and contemporary art, and is considered one of the most famous museums in the city. The museum was founded in 1936 and named after its founder, Henri van Abbe, who was a lover of art. Since 2010, the museum houses more than 2,700 works of art, including about 1,000 on paper, 700 paintings, and 1,000 sculptures and video works. It also houses one of the world's largest collections of paintings by the famous Russian artist El Lissitzky. The museum also houses works by the painter El Lissitzky.
