Vaduz Castle is located on a mountain slope at an altitude of 120 meters above sea level. It is believed that the castle was built as early as the twelfth century, as the first mention of it in historical manuscripts dates back to the year 1322 AD. Vaduz Castle was acquired by the princely family of Liechtenstein in 1712, and the west wing served as the family's official residence until 1732. After that the building became increasingly dilapidated and fell into disrepair before being rebuilt and renovated between 1905 and 1912.
