Information about Upper Rhine Tobacco Museum
80 years after the discovery of tobacco in 1492, tobacco was already present in the Upper Rhine, and the reason for its cultivation dates back to the Thirty Years' War as soldiers passing through the region brought smoke to the Upper Rhine. The first tobacco factories were built near Basel, and later near Pforzheim and Strasbourg. Carl Ludwig Lotzbeck established his factory in Laar in 1774, which is the cornerstone of tobacco cultivation and processing in this region. Therefore, the Tobacco Museum expresses the history of its origin and industry, so do not miss his visit to hear new historical and cultural information
