Ulug Beg is the grandson of Tamerlane, one of the most famous princes of Uzbekistan, and Ulug wanted to develop science in his kingdom, so he ordered the construction of this wonderful school that was named after him. Ulug also wanted this school to be one of the best schools in Central Asia alongside the famous schools in Samarkand. He certainly succeeded in achieving his goal, as this school became the center of science and politics in Asia and the world in the year 1417. The door of the school contains an inscription taken from the Qur’an that says “The pursuit of science is the responsibility of every Muslim woman.” The school building contains majestic mosaics, beautiful balconies and ornate domes.
