The Tower of Hercules has served as a beacon and landmark at the entrance to the port of A Coruña in northwestern Spain since the late 1st century AD when the Romans built the city. The tower, built on a rock 57 meters high, is 55 meters above sea level, and there is a small rectangular Roman building right next to the base of the tower. The site also contains a sculpture garden, rock carvings and an Islamic cemetery.
