The Tombol Mosque, also known as the Sharif Khalil Pasha Mosque, was built in 1744 in the center of the city of Shumen, and later due to the expansion of the city became the mosque in the southwestern part of it, and this temple is the largest in the country in terms of area and architectural importance, and the second largest A mosque in the Balkan Peninsula after the Sultan Selim Mosque. The mosque includes a complex of surrounding buildings that include a minaret, a library, a spiritual school, an elementary school, and an inner courtyard with a fountain covering an area of 1,730 square metres. The complex has been declared a Cultural Monument of National Importance.
