Zwin is a nature reserve located on the coast of the North Sea on the Belgian-Dutch border, and in a central area that previously linked the North Sea with the ports of Sleiè and the island of Bruges, but with the passage of years the accumulation of dirt in the water increased, making the area unsuitable for ships to pass through. The current nature reserve was established in 1952, with an area of about 1.25 square kilometers, and is famous for containing a large variety of salt-resistant plants such as sea lavender.
