Also known as the Holy Gate, the Arch of Triumph is an important structure in downtown Chisinau that commemorates Russia's victory over Turkey. It was built in 1846 by the design of architect Zaushkevich. The arch is a major tourist attraction overlooking the Government Building on rue Stefan sil Mare across the Grand National Assembly Square, a classic square piece of architecture, featuring ornate Corinthian columns and a beautiful clock on the side that chimes every fifteen minutes.
