Saint George Monastery is usually referred to as the oldest monastery in Russia, about 5 kilometers south of Novgorod, and located on the left bank of the Volkov River. With a wooden structure in 1030 by Yaroslav the Wise, also called "George", but confirmed documents indicate that the history of the monastery dates back to the early twelfth century.
