Information about The Old Windmill
An old windmill, included in the National Archeological Heritage List, and one of the few oldest buildings still standing today, and it is also the oldest windmill in Australia, dating back to 1824. This mill was used to grind corn and wheat, to feed the population Colonists from the colony, but the mill stopped grinding grain in 1845, and the tower was reused as a signaling station for shipping news between the Brisbane River inlet and the city in 1855, and major renovations were made in 1861, then the windmill tower was used as a communications research facility Early telephone, radio, and television broadcasts since the 1920s, and also underwent major maintenance in the 1980s and 2009.
