The Cathedral of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is located in the southeast of Dubrovnik. It was built on the ruins of an older cathedral dating back to the sixth century, and was designed in the traditional Baroque style by Andrea Buffalini. The cathedral is famous for its three antique aisles as well as three special towers It is also distinguished by its many landmarks, such as paintings by Italian and Dalmatian artists dating back to the period between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries.
